Black and White!

I have never really tried my hand much with black and white photos as it is not meant for every setting!  There is no law that says this or that makes a good black or white.  A few things that I look for are good composition placed in the power points of the photo.  I also like to look for a sky that is high in contrast, I have come to find that a clear sky is just not that great for landscape photos IMO.  With the weather being as comfortable as it has been I tried my hand at a few black and whites!  Finally the last two photos are long exposures of the Light!  The first photo is a 2 min exposure, while the second one is 4 min!

Low Tide!

I have come to discover a few things that make a seascape better!  First with a sunrise or sunset you need a few clouds to make the colors pop and to fill what would otherwise be empty space in the picture.  Next low tide uncovers some cool things that are otherwise underwater, sometimes you find that one thing that helps add to the picture.  This was the case with this photo I thought the buoy helped add to the photo!

Snow Moon Round 2

I went back and tried to see what I could come up with again for photos with the moon rise on Thursday night.  The moon came up at 7:35 and these images are darker, but in order to have the moon exposure corrrect it was the trade off I had to make.  I took a few 10 second exposures of the Light House and it looked good, but when I tried it with the moon, the moon was just a white spot that did not look good!

Scituate Snow Moon!

Well last night was the "Snow" full moon without the snow that is the winter of 2011-2012.  Regardless the opp was there to catch a good should if the weather and clouds would not interfere.  The time of it all was just perfect the moon was full at 4:54PM, the sunset was at 5:04PM and the moon was due to rise at 5:12PM.  The day started out on the cloudy side and I had my doubts that it was going to work, as all it takes is a very thin layer to throw the whole thing down drain.  The clouds began to break by mid afternoon and it was not a very thick deck of clouds, so I was feeling good as I made my way down the the Harbor.  As luck would have it we caught it dead on.  There were a few thin clouds out over the water that blocked the view at the very start, however by the time the moon was over the lighthouse it was game on!

Wagons North!

I took a road trip north to Maine this past Saturday.  Maine is just a great place with so many photo opportunities, you could spend days finding new takes!  My love is Lighthouses however, and Maine offers up a few awesome ones of its own.  The first stop was in Portland, for the Portland Head Light.  We then came down to York for the famous Nubble Light.  It was a tough time of day to shoot as we got to both locations during the early afternoon hours and there was not much cloud cover, trust me I'm a big believer in some cloud cover, it helps to add flavor to the photo, but in the end these came out alright, some clouds actually showed up in time for the Nubble Light shoots!
