Scituate Snow Moon!

Well last night was the "Snow" full moon without the snow that is the winter of 2011-2012.  Regardless the opp was there to catch a good should if the weather and clouds would not interfere.  The time of it all was just perfect the moon was full at 4:54PM, the sunset was at 5:04PM and the moon was due to rise at 5:12PM.  The day started out on the cloudy side and I had my doubts that it was going to work, as all it takes is a very thin layer to throw the whole thing down drain.  The clouds began to break by mid afternoon and it was not a very thick deck of clouds, so I was feeling good as I made my way down the the Harbor.  As luck would have it we caught it dead on.  There were a few thin clouds out over the water that blocked the view at the very start, however by the time the moon was over the lighthouse it was game on!

Wagons North!

I took a road trip north to Maine this past Saturday.  Maine is just a great place with so many photo opportunities, you could spend days finding new takes!  My love is Lighthouses however, and Maine offers up a few awesome ones of its own.  The first stop was in Portland, for the Portland Head Light.  We then came down to York for the famous Nubble Light.  It was a tough time of day to shoot as we got to both locations during the early afternoon hours and there was not much cloud cover, trust me I'm a big believer in some cloud cover, it helps to add flavor to the photo, but in the end these came out alright, some clouds actually showed up in time for the Nubble Light shoots!

A few New Takes....

Well we finally got our first significant snow event of the season! The bad news is that on Sunday my birthday actually, I was going to get up early and get some snowscapes. This did not work out as I ended up in bed all day with the flu, which was a blast! Finally yesterday I was feeling better and it was a very nice day with mild temperatures, so I went down to the lighthouse, where else right! The tide was very low and made for some different shooting locations that you might not get because when the tide is up these areas are underwater. The sunset ended up being very good, I was more in pursuit of some long exposures, with an ND filter! Also a few other shoots on here from a few days before I got sick!

No Snow, Just Cold and Ice!

After our trace of snow one morning, there has been nothing more to show for it!  One thing that has been holding its own of late has been the cold nights and believe it or not days that don't hit the 50's for high temperatures!  With the period of cold weather we have experienced the Harbor has started to take on some ice in a few spots!  This always makes for nice mood shoots I think around boats and other things when the opportunities present themselves.  If we could get some snow to go with the cold that would be even better, for now though this will have to do!  One thing to note also is that looking ahead to the February full moon on the 7th of the month I believe will make for a good shoot with the lighthouse as it will be in a similar position to the super moon shoot I took.  What makes it work is the fact that the moon will rise at 5:12 PM, and the sunsets that day at 5:04 so it will just be dark enough to make for a great shoot!  As is the case with any moon shoot you need the weather to work so we will just have to wait and see!

First Snow!

Well it took a lot longer then it should have, but we finally got a little snow and I do mean little.  I went back to a spot down on Jericho road where some boats have been beached for the winter that made for a decent setting.  Then I went up to the Common where there was a few good takes!  I will try and get a few more on the site latter tonight!

Flying Santa comes to Scituate!

Yesterday Santa made a trip to Scituate, no not by sleigh, train, boat, but rather helicopter!  More information can be found at the Friends of Flying Santa website, and if you have some time you should read the history portion as it is actually really a cool thing!

I'm hopeful that we might see some snow before the holiday, as I have a few shoots in mind that I think would be awesome!  In the mean time I might try and sneak out and get a few more shoots in the next few weeks, I do have a lot to do in order to get ready for the holidays!  As you can imagine this involves a fair amount of printing etc....  One other thing that might be on the horizon is greeting cards!  With the help of a friend I have looked into greeting cards, which will be available shortly if it works out!  I'm getting some I hope by Tuesday of this week and I'm going to attempt holiday cards for the family!  These won't be available this year, but I hope to have them for sale come next Heritage Days!
